Face the music.

I been told that once fall/winter arrives the moving business slows down but not to a halt so why do I have to go back to the Surgery center?   Friends and family say it’ll be fun and “you might as well” So reluctantly I called my former boss and said “hey can I come to work for a week? “Ya I’m glad you can come in” was her response.  Darn I wanted her to say it was slow “we have plenty of staff” and thanks but no thanks.  Monday’s schedule “Cataracts And colonoscopies” I know I know it’s only for a week. I just wanted to hang out, sleep and watch Gilmore Girls before heading to Florida.

Oh Boy…No it’s a Girl.

I may not  know the all the nuances as it is a painful yet ultimately joyous story but here it goes. My Mom was a novice postulate (year one for a nun) and Mother Superior took her aside and told her that this was not her calling. The nuns at the Convent of the Good Shepperd in Los Angeles in essence kick out a young girl who knew very little of the world. Once put out (I’m exaggerating a bit) she was lost and was helped out by a tall blonde guy who got her pregnant and she ended up ironically in another convent to givewpid-20140819_190856.jpg birth to a girl.   The worst  happened, they let my mom hold her and then took the baby away to be put up for adoption.  This painful event was the source of my mom’s amnesia to the point of using a hypnotherapist to recall dates and times. At  28 years old and after my brother Aaron’s death at age 21 my mom told me I had a sister.  The reason for this story is simple. My Sister lives here in Seattle and its one of the best things that happened to me so much I had to blog about it.  I joke with her since my dad was Mexican and hers wasn’t. I say we are chocolate and vanilla

Sister Seattle

I took the Sounder commuter train in Kent  up to Seattle to see my Jie Jie (Mandarin for elder sister) for $3.25 then hop a bus $2.50 and got here quick.  The moving industry is slowing down and I parted ways with  my partner who I’ll meet up again in Long Beach California in a few days Meanwhile I’ll  be staying at The Moore.  It is a great hotel because it’s not a chain  and the building is family owned  2 sisters  and 3 brothers. Claw foot bath tubs & no two rooms are alike. It’s 2 blocks from Pikes Place Market Two  nights $94.00 total not bad, an espresso bar in the same lobby serves up a little treat with your order. I’ll crash at my sister’s once her current guests leaves.  Rachel Ginger beer store is becoming a regular gig and the Hibiscus  pomegranate magenta mule will be my order tomorrow. Ziajian

Citizens Bane

wpid-wp-1413204233126.jpgI Remember when truckers had their time in the sun. And the CB was the working man’s tool.  Movies like Smoky And The Bandit provide a glimpse of the life. I thought I was excited until we got one. I spoke into the microphone “can I get a handle?” WRONG! “Guys already have handles you need to introduce yourself”. “Am I coming over?” This was my way of testing the frequency.  NOPE! I should say “do you copy”. Omg I wanted to say “breaker breaker 19 this is girl about the country is that a copy?” No no no! A gal trucker I met earlier this week said “once they hear a female they go cuckoo” so she rarely uses the CB. They’ll say “what’s the color of your house”  “don’t tell them”. I mock play and everything I said was innuendo “Am I coming over” (testing if anyone copies) ” am I coming in?”  I am told there is indeed CB etiquette.  Oh dear this is Adrianna over (it) & out”

Utah

imageimageimageimageThe long standing joke within my family. ” When the rapture comes we are headed to Utah” Why? “Cuz that’s where all the food is at”. If you ever moved a Mormon family you will understand.

Wyoming

IMG_0190.JPG

I know very little about this state. Most of the land is privately owned and oil is evident. Fracking is taking place in these areas much to the dismay of the Feds. It’s both arid like and the earth is color of unleaven bread. Being it is the least populated state I think it is a place where one can get in touch with mother nature so peaceful and serene. But I should ask first.

Nebraska

Sign off highway “Do not pick up hitchhikers” I was asked if I knew what that meant. To me it was obvious just don’t pick up hitchhikers.  “Nope it means there is a prison near by”. I also learned there are two seasons winter and construction. The candy colored cones everywhere.  The combines rolling across the fields late at night with lights giving the only indication they are out there. I took so much for granted as I  sit in a cantina with chips and salsa in front of me it dawns on me how much the work of others goes into my enjoyment. Being out here is humbling. Shalom

Iowa

On the westbound lanes stopped to rest WHERE?  Only the biggest truck stop in the world. A brief and interesting visit where I snapped  pictures like a Japanese tourist at Disney land. Then we mosied down the highway to the Kinze plant to nap. The locals with their smoky treats and hot dogs explained the acres of unharvested corn eventually ends up in feed, methanol and corn chips. “Hmm interesting” I also notice everyone had good skin, healthy bodies and well manicured facial hair. Goatee or fu manchu, Soul patch and a few fades.  I felt like I was in a sea of Tim McGraw s.  Faith fully yours Girl about the country.

Solitary Event

One of first things I notice when I decided to hop in the truck, was the lifestyle of the trucker. Here’s the distinction as I am told. “We are movers And there happens to be a truck involved” The longer I’m out here the more sense that statement makes. I see so many men out here, eating by themselves and staring out with far away eyes.  What are they thinking about?  I know what I’m thinking about. Everything that we wear eat smell taste hold buy or share came on a truck and although I am grateful they have chosen this solitary lifestyle I also hope they are more alone than lonely.

Time Warp

I asked “are we on east coast central or pacific time?” It’s obvious based on location but circadian rhythm is what I’m talking about.  Out here days and times are thrown off schedule.  I pass through 3 states in one day and two time zones later I’ll ask “Where are we?”. I’m not a driver yet so as I look outside to the rows of houses, trailers and Doughboy pools I tend to focus  on the people who dwell there. I make up a stories, little cute ones about who comes over to swim and when is so and so going fishing with Uncle Mel. They are wholesome good stories which speaks to my internal dialog. Racing towards and away from the sun, chasing the clock and losing track of days is peculiar event I’ve come to accept.
